Introduction

The Diploma in Sport & Wellness Management was devised to reflect the increasing requirements for a greater business orientation in the sport and leisure industry. The course provides students with a broad-based knowledge of business management priorities that is framed by specialised sport and wellness modules. The specialised knowledge encompasses wide-ranging topics such as country club and facility management, workplace health promotion, personal fitness leadership and leisure industries.

Unique to NYP is the Teaching Enterprise Project (TEP) training whereby students gain practical hands-on learning and exposure in various management and operational business aspects, including the attachment in the "Body Watch", a fitness centre in NYP, operated by students and staff from the School of Business Management. Through group work, projects and execution of real-life events, students get to apply their technical knowledge while developing capabilities in sport management skills. An 11-week industry attachment complements the 6-month TEP stint.

Course Aims

This course aims to:

provide students with a good broad-based business education through carefully selected core business modules and an understanding of business process development and operation;
provide an adequate level of specialisation through careful selection and phasing of technical modules of sport and wellness management within the course;
enable total student development through value-added education, training and other capabilities development including developing an entrepreneurial mindset;
train and develop students in a practice-oriented learning environment such as our unique Teaching Enterprise Project (TEP), industrial placement programmes and case study-based learning;
develop essential life-long skills such as thinking, problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a strong emphasis on communication, interpersonal and IT skills; and
develop students with a regional and global mindset who can contribute productively in a competitive, borderless business world.

Opportunities for Graduate

With the global commercialisation of sport in full flow, the ability of practitioners to cope with the issues and challenges presented will lead to excellent employment opportunities. Graduates will find rewarding career prospects in the sport, wellness and leisure industry within the private and public sectors in areas such as sport and recreation development, corporate wellness, health promotion, sports or fitness club management, coaching and many others.

Entry with advanced standing to reputable overseas universities in United Kingdom and Australia; such as Loughborough University (UK), Deakin University and University of South Australia, and many others, is provided, as it is for business-related management courses in the local universities.
